Sustainable Resources Management (SUREMA) – international and interdisciplinary
Sustainable Partners - Partners for Sustainability
Twinning Chinese and German research teams related to the sustainable use of renewable natural rerssources
The program is directed at research teams from both countries that are planning to work together on a defined research project. The Bosch Foundation is especially interested in the involvement of young scientists, such as post-doctorate and postgraduate researchers.Research must be focused on how the use of renewable natural resources impacts the biosphere. Projects relating to fossil and mineral resources cannot be supported. The scientific objectives are more important to the Bosch Foundation than the academic disciplines of the researchers involved (such as agriculture and forestry science, biology, environmental science, economics, political and social science, etc.).
The application deadline is October 10, 2008. Applications must be submitted in English.
Georg Forster Research Fellowship for Prof. Dr. Victor Asio (Philippines)
The Alexander von Humboldt foundation granted a research fellowship to Prof. Asio from the Department of Agronomy and Soil Science, Visayas State University, Phillipines. Next year he will be a guest of Prof. Dr. Reinhold Jahn at the Soil Science and Soil Protection Division (Institute of Agricultural and Nutritional Sciences). His research about “Characteristics and genesis of soils derived from Quaternary limestone in Central Philippines” will verify the hypothesis that the genesis of soils from limestone is influenced by atmospheric input of materials such as from nearby volcanoes. In particular, it will test the hypothesis that the clayey texture, reddish color, clay mineralogical and nutrient status of soils from Quaternary limestone in the islands in Central Philippines has been influenced by different amounts of volcanic ash deposition in the past depending on the distance to volcanoes.
Workshop on "Water Resources in Egypt: Challenges and Management"
Within the framework of the "German-Egyptian Year of Sciences and Technology" an one day workshop on Integrated Water Management will be held at the Cairo International Conference Center on June 23. The workshop will be a part of the 14th International Conference and Exhibition InterBuild.

Within the framework of the national contest "Germany - Land of Ideas” the geological 3D spatial model of the City of Halle (Saale) as a result from a cooperative effort between the Specialist Group Hydro- and Environmental Geology, Prof. Dr. Peter Wycisk, and the City of Halle (Saale), Environmental Specialist Group, will be awarded on January 29th.
The subject area "Water" within the framework of the "German-Egyptian Year of Sciences and Technology 2007" is coordinated by Prof. Wycisk
The Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research have declared the year 2007 to be the "German-Egyptian Year of Sciences and Technology". The topic “Water” – one of six subject areas – is coordinated by Prof. Dr. Peter Wycisk, Department of Hydro- and Environmental Geology and Director of the University Center for Environmental Sciences at Martin Luther University. The objectives of the activities are the promotion of exchange of scientists as well as the intensification of research cooperation in this field between German and Egyptian Research Institutions and Universities.
